This scene pays tribute to the women who accompanied and followed their men west.  Who are these women?  Perhaps they are officers wives waiting for a stage to take them to join their husbands at frontier post, or maybe ranchers wives passing the time while their men are conducting business.  Possibly "soiled doves" waiting for payday and the cowboys to arrive.  Or...?  the interpretation is up to you.
